TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)--A private investigator from Tampa is accused of stealing more than $120,000 in state funds.

Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater says 46-year-old Darel Dougherty turned himself into the Hillsborough County Jail. He faces of charges of grand theft charges as well as organized fraud, and fraudulent use of personal information.

He's accused of falsely inflating invoices that were sent to the Justice Administrative Commission.

State officials say he submitted altered case logs, which allowed him to bill the attorneys he worked for at a higher rate.

Dougherty's case is being prosecuted in Tallahassee.
