Tallahassee woman gets 9 years for death of 4-month-old child

TALLAHASSEE, FL.(WTXL) - UPDATE October 10, 2017 (5:24 p.m.) - The Tallahassee woman convicted in the death of a 4-month-old child has been sentenced to 9 years in prison.

Brittany Knight pled guilty as charged to one count of aggravated manslaughter of a child. 

Officials say the woman was running an illegal daycare when the boy died in her care. They say the child was sleeping in an adult bed unattended.

After the Department of Children and Families opened an investigation, they discovered that the daycare was unlicensed and shut it down.

She was sentenced to nine years in prison followed by five years of probation. Knight is to have no unsupervised contact with children aside from her own.

Her name has also been placed on national registry to prohibit her from being employed in fields involving child care. 


A Tallahassee woman has been arrested and charged with the death of a four month old at an unlicensed day care.

The child was found dead in June of 2015.

Officials say the boy was sleeping alone in an adult bed unattended. After the Department of Children and Families opened an investigation they found that the daycare was unlicensed and shut it down.

Friday, Brittany Michelle Knight, was taken in to custody and charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child.

She is currently being held on a $500,000  bond and made her first appearance in court Saturday.
