TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Cardiac Kids have done it.

After ten trips to the Women's College World Series, the Florida State softball team is coming home with the national championship trophy.

Florida State earned the 2018 NCAA National Championship with a 8-3 win over Washington.

The Seminoles received a gutsy performance from Meghan King in the circle and weathered an early deficit in the come-from-behind victory over the Huskies.

There will be a celebration in Tallahassee after the ladies arrive but fans in the Capital City did not wait on that to show their support.

"I think it's very empowering," said one Seminoles' fan. "This is a wonderful group of ladies, they have worked their butts off and I think this is the moment they deserved and seeing everyone here cheering them on shows if you're a Nole, you're a Nole."

The Noles Softball team arrived in Tallahassee at around 2:50 p.m., and received a big championship welcome.

Later, FSU and its national championship softball team will receive their first hometown public recognition Wednesday when the team appears at the City of Tallahassee’s Commission meeting.

“The Tallahassee community is immensely proud of the Florida State Seminoles Softball team for winning the National Championship last night,” Mayor Andrew Gillum said. “It is a privilege to officially recognize and honor this outstanding team and their tremendous achievement. Today, we are all Noles!”

The City Commission meeting will begin at 4 p.m., and will be streamed live on our Facebook page. The meeting takes place in the Commission Chambers at City Hall, 300 South Adams Street, and is open to the public.

A larger community celebration is also being organized by FSU and community partners. The celebration is set for Friday at 3:30 p.m.
