TALLAHASSEE, FL. (WTXL) - A Tallahassee teacher was found guilty by a Leon County jury for not reporting suspected abuse of a child.

After two hours of deliberation, Sunshine Jacobs was convicted for not reporting the sexual abuse of a 12-year-old girl.

The 12-year-old admitted to Jacobs she was being sexually assaulted by Jack Arons and didn't feel safe at home. Jacobs worked as a middle school math and Spanish teacher at the Magnolia School when she was arrested.

After reaching a plea deal, Arons was sentenced to 15 years in state prison on charges of four counts of lewd and lascivious behavior and one count of cruelty toward a child, sexual assault of a victim over 12 and attempted sexual battery.

Jacobs and another administrator at the school, Kathleen McGlynn, were arrested after failing to alert the Florida Department of Children and Families as require by law. Instead the two worked to develop a "safety plan," with the girl, her mother and Arons.

Sharon McQueen, who also worked at Magnolia School at the time, faces charges of failure to report.

Trial dates have not been set for McQueen or McGlynn.
