TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The first solar panels on Tallahassee's "solar farm" will be installed on Tuesday.

The City of Tallahassee says that after months of site preparation and construction, crews will be installing the first of 230,000 thin film solar panels.

The solar farm is set to be completed this winter.

When completed, the 20 megawatt (MW) solar farm, which is being constructed on 120 acres of land at the Tallahassee International Airport (TLH), will be one of the largest in the Sunshine State.

Once in service, officials say the solar panels will produce 37 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity each year, which is enough to power 3,400 homes and businesses in the Capital City.

Earlier this year, the City Commission moved forward with planning a second, 40 MW solar farm in Tallahassee.
