TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Earlier this week, FLorida Gov. Rick Scott suspended Tallahassee Commissioner Scott Maddox following an FBI indictment.
Now the search is on to fill that seat on the commission.
WTXL ABC 27's Jada Williams was live with what’s next, and she spoke with the mayor about this.
By law, the process must be completed within 20 days, meaning Tallahassee will go into the new year with a full commission.
To apply, you must be at least 18 years old, a resident of Tallahassee, and registered to vote here in Tallahassee.
Applications will be accepted at City Hall until five o'clock on Saturday, December 22nd.
Because City Hall doesn't receive mail on Saturdays, any mailed in applications have to arrive by next Friday, the 21st.
Each commissioner will decide on their top 3 choices by December 26, then reconvene on Monday, December 31st, during a special meeting at 4 p.m. to fill the vacant commission seat.
Tallahassee Mayor John Dailey said that "If you love our community and you're dedicated to moving us forward, please apply. We want talented individuals from all different walks of life to come serve with us on the city commission and help move the community forward. We want to make ourselves available. We want the process to be transparent, we want it to be streamlined. It will be flawless and we're going to move into 2019 with a great new commission."
If the commissioners don't come to an agreement within the 20 day window, Gov. Rick Scott will have the power to appoint someone to fill the seat.
