TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- Students at Hawks Rise Elementary School celebrated the addition of a new classroom wing Tuesday morning.
Students, faculty and district officials were all part of a special ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Eight new classrooms will house the school's fifth graders, as well as some fourth graders.
Principal Evy Friend says the expansion is a great way to kick off the new year.
"The children -- they take pride in their school, and it helps us to just continue to grow," Friend said. "This neighborhood is growing. This area is growing, so I think we will continue to expand."
The school names its classrooms after each of the United States, but with the new classrooms, they're being named after island territories owned by the U.S. like Guam and Puerto Rico.
