TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Organizers at the local Salvation Army are concerned about a significant decline in funds raised for services in the Big Bend area.
With only five days left in the annual Red Kettle Campaign for The Salvation Army, officials are projecting severe decline in the amount of money raised this holiday season.
They said that the Red Kettle Campaign is the major yearly fundraiser of The Salvation Army, and has been since its inception in 1891.
“It is becoming increasingly difficult each year for non-profit organizations like ours to find funding for emergency programs," said Lieutenant Ryan Meo, Corps Officer for The Salvation Army of Tallahassee. "Our goal for this year was $200,000, which represents a large portion of the funds needed to continue offering services. Right now we are at least 25% behind where we were last year. We don’t want our programs and services to suffer, and there is no way we can reach this goal without our community stepping up to help.”
This why the organization has reached out to the community to encourage them to volunteer on shift at a time at a red kettle location to help collect funds.
They have asked volunteers to call them at (850) 222-0304 and volunteer to ring the bell. The kettles will be out through December 24.
