TALLAHASSEE, FLA. (WTXL) - Judges in South Florida dismiss close to 24,000 red ticket camera citations, after saying the county's program violated Florida law. Tallahassee has had the red light traffic camera safety program in place since 2010, but city officials say programs across the state are operated differently.
A total of 19 red light traffic cameras can be found throughout Tallahassee. All videos are reviewed by officers before a citation is issued to a driver. Once you receive the citation, you can then go online and watch the recorded video of the violation in question. Although city officials say if officers don't see a clear violation once the video is reviewed, it can be discarded.
Tallahassee's red light traffic program is through the vendor ACS. Programs can vary across the state based on the vendor and city guidelines.
The city's program has helped decrease drivers running red lights by 95% percent in the last five years. City staff say there are no future plans to expand the red light camera program at this time.
