TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Bolstered by Florida State University, the GetBlue Campaign was able to hit their $1 million pre-board ticket sales goal this morning, making Tallahassee one step closer to bringing JetBlue to the Capital city.

Florida state chipped in $1 million on top of $320,000 in ticket pledges this morning, to show JetBlue that Tallahassee is ready for the airline.

City officials, business leaders, educational institutions and residents have been working to recruit JetBlue's direct airline service from Tallahassee to Fort Lauderdale.

Officials behind the campaign say Tallahassee is primed for the route, with 13,000 students in the city who call south Florida their home, on top of hundreds of businesses and associations who want to travel between the capital and south Florida.

"We have a whole population of people that come that are currently underserved that are trying to get from south Florida to north Florida, north Florida to south Florida. That's what the JetBlue campaign is all about. We want to give them a low fare option to fly out of Tallahassee Airport," said City Commissioner Scott Maddox.
