TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - Red light cameras in Tallahassee were turned off at midnight Monday night, according to the City of Tallahassee.

The City explains that they are discontinuing their use after 5 years because they have, "successfully led to a significant decrease in red light running at monitored intersections."

In some areas, the City says there has been a decrease in red light running as high as 95%.

They go on to explain that because the program was to be paid for from money collected by the violations, the decrease in red light running has made the program unable to sustain itself financially.
