TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- The Tallahassee Fire Department recognized several of its members during a special ceremony Friday.
The department welcomed 10 new firefighters, promoted nine engineers and fire specialists, and honored one member who's retiring.
The new firefighters were pinned by friends and family, after going through several weeks of training.
For Deputy Chief John Gatlin, it was an extra special day. His son (also named John) joined the force.
"[He] weaved his way through the different processes to get hired and make it through orientation," Gatlin said. "Not only is it a very proud moment for me as a father, but just as a member to know that he's joining a great organization and part of a much larger family."
Several members were also recognized for their response to a fatal bus crash in Wakulla County in July.
