TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL)- A popular morning radio host was arrested for DUI Monday night, according to court records. John Dawson, who is a morning radio host for Star 98.9, tested as having at least a .247 blood alcohol level, said police.
Responding officers said they found Dawson passed out in his vehicle on N. Monroe St. just north of the I-10 eastbound off-ramp.
An off duty Quincy police officer was stopped behind Dawson's vehicle and told police that he originally thought that Dawson's car was not working because it was just sitting in the left turn lane. According to the incident report, the off-duty officer was waiting at the light for 10 minutes before when he walked up to the truck to see what was wrong.
The off-duty officer said that he saw Dawson asleep, with the keys in the ignition and the vehicle still running.
Tallahassee Police said they arrived on scene around 8 p.m. and Dawson was still sitting in his car. The TPD officer said that he could smell alcohol and " the driver's eyes appeared to be bloodshot and watery, and his pupils were dilated."
When the officer asked to see Dawson's license, he handed them his bank card instead, details the incident report. Police said that Dawson finally found in license and handed it over.
Police said that when they asked Dawson to get out of the car, he " appeared very unsteady and unsure on his feet. He staggered to the sidewalk, and almost fell when attempting to step over the raised curb."
The officer attempted to conduct several field sobriety test and claimed that Dawson's response to having difficulty with one of the tests was that he couldn't do it even if he was sober.
Dawson was arrested and charged for DUI.
