TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Tallahassee Police Department celebrated Thursday, handing out awards at their annual holiday luncheon.

Officers were awarded for their hard work by their peers.

"The awards that we give out are an annual award for our officers. They mean alot to our officers and our staff because they're chosen by the people who work with them," said Police Chief Michael DeLeo.

Everyone that received an award was nominated by their commanding officers. The awards were handed out by Chief DeLeo.

"Getting an outside award from an outside community group is a great award and a great accomplishment but when you have those peers that you work with on a daily to day basis saying 'Hey, you're doing a great job' that says a little bit more for our guys," he explained.

The event also marked the first Ugly Sweater Contest ever to be held at the ceremony.
