TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Wednesday night, the Tallahassee City Commission agreed to hit the pause button on the plan to move police headquarters to the Southside.
Before moving forward with architecture and design, the City will host two town hall meetings in February.
The site the City is looking at, is the current home of the 'Town South Shopping Center' on South Monroe Street for a "public safety complex."
Some people feel bringing TPD there would lead to "over-policing" of the black community a claim the City has denied.
Others say the neighborhoods in the Southside are on board with the project and that it's time to act now.
"I really believe the pause is appropriate for the sake of if only allowing the residents and community to become more informed. Even if there aren't any major shifts or changes, I think we need government that's more sensitive to the needs and concerns of the residents. So, anything that promotes that, I think, is a positive direction," said Pastor Eric Johnson.
The City hasn't announced when or where the town hall meetings will be.
