Tallahassee officially hires new city manager

Posted

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Tallahassee officially has a new city manager.

Commissioners approved the employment contract for Reese Goad on Wednesday.

He had been the interim city manager since last October.

It's a five-year term that automatically renews in two-year increments.

Goad's salary is $230,000 and he'll have a city vehicle, and be covered by the normal city pension plan.

Of course, Goad isn't new to city government. He's served in different roles since the year 2000.

We talked to him last week about going from interim to permanent city manager.

He told us he knows this year has been "challenging" for the city, but he's ready to step in and move Tallahassee forward.

"We clearly come to work every day to do a good job and be efficient and effective and good stewards of the finances of the community and making sure we're rendering good services," said Goad. "That's what we do, and part of that is to engender trust. I have every confidence, full confidence, that we can earn that trust, continue to earn the trust of the community."

It's been a year of significant change in Tallahassee city government with three new city officials: City Attorney Cassandra Jackson, City Auditor Joseph Maleszewski, and now, City Manager Reese Goad.

And, of course, before the year is over, the city will have a new mayor and two new commissioners from the November election.
