TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - If you have batteries to get rid of, and you live in Tallahassee, you may want to attend the city's Cash for Trash event on Saturday.
The event runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Solid Waste Services facility, 2727 Municipal Way.
Utility customers with an active garbage service account will receive a $5 credit toward their utility bill for turning in their unwanted household hazardous waste and bulky items. This event is not for commercial customers.
When batteries are tossed in the trash and dumped in our landfills, they can crack, decay or leak, releasing toxic chemicals into soil and ground surface waters.
All batteries from small, triple-A batteries to large vehicle batteries should be properly disposed of at a hazardous waste center, the City of Tallahassee says. Some local automotive parts stores will also accept old vehicle batteries.
