TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Tallahassee is one of the country's best cities to raise a family, according to a national housing rental website.
The Capital City ranked number five in the nation by the company Zumper.
Zumper says one of the city's strengths is the fact that it has a relatively young population.
In fact, out of around 100 cities the company looked at, Tallahassee had the highest number of residents under the age of 45.
The company explored ten categories. Tallahassee did well on low average commute times, low cost for renters and that high percentage of younger residents, 73 percent under 45-years-old.
Zumper said Tallahassee ranked the highest in Florida by a "fairly large margin."
The Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce says the city has shaped itself over time into a family-friendly community.
"We have great neighborhoods. We have really great tight-knit communities within the community where people look out for each other, and they want to be your neighbor," said Jay Revell, Vice President of Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce. "They want to be like Mr. Rogers. I think it all kind of blends together to paint a really great picture for our community as it relates to a place to raise your family."
The company added the city has "plenty of museums and a rich history" that offers a lot to families with young children.
Zumper said state capitals have dominated the top of the rankings and Tallahassee is no different.
Madison, Wisconsin is number one their list, followed by Lincoln, Nebraska; Lexington, Kentucky; Boise, Idaho; and Tallahassee.
