TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The president of the Tallahassee branch of the NAACP has passed away.

According to Delaitre Hollinger, Robert Travis Jr., the branch president, died Monday night at the age of 78. Hollinger will now serve as branch president. 

He sent the following statement to WTXL ABC 27:

“It is with profound sadness that the we share the news of the passing of Robert Travis, Jr. (78), President of the Tallahassee Branch of the NAACP. President Travis was not only a visionary of the association but also a keeper of the flame, who worked tirelessly to lead the Tallahassee Branch NAACP as its president. During his tenure, President Travis accomplished many of the association’s goals.

President Travis, who was a firm supporter of our youth units, devoted countless hours to the Tallahassee NAACP chapters at FAMU and FSU, leaving a lasting impression.

It is with great sadness and respect that we extend our deepest condolences to his family and to the multitudes of friends and supporters from around the nation. In this most difficult time, we hope it is a comfort to his family, that the entire community mourns their loss and are praying for them at this sad time.”

  • Visitation for President Travis will be held Friday, March 23 between 5-7:30 p.m. at Culley's Meadow Wood Funeral Home on 700 Timberlane Rd. Tallahassee, FL 32310 
  • Funeral Services for President Travis will be held Saturday, March 24 at 1 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church on 224 N Martin Luther King Jr Blvd Tallahassee, FL 32301
