TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- Crime in the Capital City has become a more prominent talking point among residents recently.
Even in the hours after news began to spread of the shooting death of Florida State University Professor Daniel Markel, many took to social media to express their growing concern about crime in the area.
According to the statistics there may be a reason we're hearing more about crime and murder.
From January to the end of July 2014, Tallahassee Police Department has handled 14 murders. Their counterparts at the Leon County Sheriff's Office reports 1 murder.
Year to year here is how those Leon County numbers compare, according to statistics from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement:
