TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - It was all about women's issues at a public forum at the Ghazvini Center in Tallahassee Monday night.

The six candidates running to be the Capital City's next Mayor fielded questions from an audience of about 75 people on a variety of topics, like employment and the gender pay gap.

"I will make sure in my administration that women are a part of coming to the table," said Norris Barr.

"I want the same pay for the same reasons. I don't want more just because," said Carrie Litherland.

"I think it's up to our city to make sure we have an even playing field," said Joe West.

The candidates also addressed female-focused issues like health and safety.

"We need to have a zero tolerance policy for any kind of harassment, any kind of discrimination, any kind of violence," said Michelle Rehwinkel Vasilinda.

"Reproductive justice is under attack. I think that's something that also has to be part of the conversation," said Dustin Daniels.

"I would implement a policy specifically training all employees within the city on domestic violence, sexual violence and stalking within the workplace," said John Dailey.

The Oasis Center for Women and Girls hosted the forum. The League of Women voters moderated it.

The forum wasn't just about women; it was also about issues that affect girls in the community. Some of the youngest members of the audience can't even vote for Tallahassee's next Mayor.

"You have to, little by little, understand what's going on instead of, as soon as you turn 18, loading everything onto yourself to learn. You have to build up your knowledge over time," said Athena Baucum, a 14-year-old forum attendee.

Voters have just a few more days to decide who they want to support. Florida's primary election is on August 28th.
