TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum spoke from the steps of the Florida State University Westcott building Wednesday morning.

"And now what we have today are young people speaking out all across this state, all across this country," Gillum said. "With the power of their voice, the power of their compassion, the power of their compassion, the power of their ideas, the power of their spirit that says enough is enough."

Several hundred students from FSU and Leon County High Schools filled the fountain area on behalf of their Stoneman Douglas peers.

In a display of solidarity spanning several blocks, Mayor Gillum led the students from the Wescott fountain to the capitol building.

They raised rally signs and, their voices, to support legislative changes for common sense gun laws.

"We need gun control. We do. We don't want to take away guns. It's our second amendment right, and we deserve to have our second amendment rights. But there needs to be some line where we say enough is enough," Madeleine Bodiford, Child's High School Senior said. "We need to stop letting our peers and our children get slaughtered. And if the adults and the government won't do it, then the students will do it. If they don't want to listen to us, we're going to make ourselves heard. "

The students were met with more supporters on the front steps of the capitol.
