TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)- Mayor Andrew Gillum marked the start of the Tallahassee future leaders academy Monday morning.
TFLA is a program that matches young people with jobs during the summer months. Participants will work between 20 to 40 hours each week, over the next six weeks.
They will also have the chance to to sit for a nationally-recognized customer service certification, and will participate in various professional development workshops.
"The best thing about this program is that it gives these young people a sense of additional self worth and value," said Gillum. "We're hopeful that it will shape their future trajectories," he added.
Employers participating in the program include the Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce and Florida State University, among others.
