TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A 19-year-old has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for stabbing a woman in the head during an armed robbery at Red Roof Inn in early 2017.
Tyrone Murphy Jr. pled no contest to attempted first degree murder and armed robbery with a deadly weapon. He was sentenced to 18 years in the Florida Department of Corrections.
Murphy was just 18 when he committed the crime.
According to court documents, Murphy went into the Red Roof Inn in early February 2017 asking about room prices.
When the clerk said there were no rooms available, Murphy stabbed her in the head. As she fell to the floor, they said he demanded money and tried to stab the clerk again in the back. Luckily, the clerk was able to get away and lock herself in the bathroom until Murphy left.
Documents say Murphy stabbed the woman with so much force, it broke her orbital bone.
Police say took around $200 from the hotel cash drawer. The incident was captured on the hotel’s surveillance video.

The Tallahassee Police Department said that Tyrone Murphy, Jr. was arrested on Thursday.
They said that Murphy stabbed the clerk at the Red Roof Inn off Hospitality Street then took cash from the register.
