TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - A man involved in a domestic violence situation turned deadly was sentenced to life in prison Thursday.

Joshua Franklin was sentenced for the murder of Robert Simmons-Goodwin. According to police, Simmons-Goodwin was shot in 2012 following an attempted rescue of a friend from a violent situation.

A police report stated that Tamisha Berger called a friend to come pick her up from Franklin's house on Wekewa Nene Road. Berger said over the phone that Franklin had hit her.

Police said that when Latonya Askew and Robert Simmons-Goodwin arrived to pick Berger up, Franklin pulled out a gun and began shooting.

Askew and Simmons-Godwin were both shot, and Franklin reportedly drove over Simmons-Godwin's body as he fled the scene. Askew was shot twice, and Simmons-Godwin was later pronounced dead at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.

Franklin was found guilty for second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, and one gun related charge.
