Tallahassee man nicknamed ‘Pistol’ arrested for March shooting

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Tallahassee man has been arrested in connection to a March shooting that left his cousin with non-life threatening injuries. 

Durante "Pistol" Herring, 21, was arrested by the Leon County Sheriff's Office on Thursday. 

On March 25, deputies responded to Fairbanks Ferry Road in response to a shooting.  

According to the police report, Herring and a companion approached a man and woman and "engaged" them in a verbal confrontation that turned physical.  

When deputies arrived on scene, they made contact with the woman.  

While talking to deputies, the woman stated Herring threatened to kill her and the man. 

She stated during the fight, Herring pulled out a revolver from a backpack he was carrying.  

The woman told deputies that she and the man began to run when she heard a gunshot and saw the man fall to the ground, yelling "my leg." 

The woman stated she heard three more gunshots, with one passing close to her head. 

Arrest documents state, the shooting then stopped, but the man and woman continued running through the woods until they got to a residence on Fairbanks Ferry Road, where they called law enforcement.  

The woman stated she was in fear for her life and believes Herring was trying to shoot her as well. 

When deputies arrived on scene, they also saw the man laying on the back steps of the home with a gunshot wound to his left foot. He was taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. 

When deputies talked with the man at the hospital, he said him and Herring are cousins and that he knew "for a fact it was Durante that shot me."  

Based on the evidence, Herring is being charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
