TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Tallahassee man faces domestic battery charges after hitting his girlfriend, causing her lung to collapse, over a dispute on who was going to feed their child.
Blair Brown, 26, was arrested by the Leon County Sheriff's Office on Friday.
On June 18, deputies responded to Chevron on Capital Circle NW in response to a domestic battery that occurred at the victim's home.
When deputies arrived, they made contact with the victim. The police report states she was hyperventilating and complaining of pain coming from her chest.
Deputies also stated she had difficulty breathing and speaking.
While talking to deputies, the victim told them she was at her home with Brown when they began arguing over who was going to make a bottle for their child.
The victim stated the argument progressively got worse and Brown began walking towards her in a threatening manner.
Due to previous altercations, she raised her leg up to keep Brown from advancing any further and hitting her. She said that caused her foot to hit Brown in the stomach, making him even more angry.
According to the police report, Brown pushed her leg down and began punching her in the head and ribs.
She told officers that the physical altercation lasted three minutes before she was able to get away from Brown. That's when she left the house and drove herself to the Chevron.
The victim was transported by Leon County EMS to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital Emergency Room - Northeast.
After an x-ray was done, it was found that the victim's left lung collapsed and she had a large contusion on her left side as a result from the altercation.
Deputies say a chest tub was inserted in her left lung and she was then transported to TMH Main ER on Miccosukee Road.
Deputies then made contact with Brown and conducted an interview.
While talking with deputies, he did admit they got into a verbal argument over who was going to make food for their baby.
Brown said during the argument, the victim left the house and he has not seen or spoken to her since.
He informed officers that it's common for one of them to leave when there is an argument and said there was no physical altercation.
Based on the evidence, Brown is being charged with domestic aggravated battery causing great bodily harm.
His bond has been set at $15,000.
