TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Tallahassee man is facing multiple charges after assaulting his girlfriend, leaving her with a nasal fracture and swollen face because he believed she was cheating on him.

Markes Jones, 27, was arrested by the Tallahassee Police Department on Wednesday.

In Nov. 2017, the victim moved into a home with her then boyfriend, Jones. The victim and Jones lived together as a family until the end of Jan. 2018.

At the end of January, the victim moved out and ended her relationship with Jones because he attacked her.

The victim reported the incident to the Leon County Sheriff's Office.

On March 9, officers say the victim and Jones mended their relationship and began to live at Jones' home as a family again.

A couple days later, the victim told officers that Jones was suspicious she was receiving messages from other men.

The police report states, Jones took the victim's phone and looked at her messages. Since Jones looked at the victim's messages, the victim demanded to look at Jones' messages.

According to the police report, he allowed the victim to momentarily look at the messages on his phone, but then took it back.

Jones refused to give the victim her phone back and an argument ensued, with the victim telling Jones after she completed her shift at work, she would move out.

Jones eventually gave the victim's phone back and she left for work.

While at work, the victim said she received multiple text messages from Jones trying to save their relationship.

Instead, the victim requested he bring her belongings to her job so she did not have to go back to his home.

The victim told officers that Jones arrived at her job around 8:30 p.m. without her requested items.

While at her job, the victim said Jones tried to reconcile their relationship, but after she affirmed she wanted to move out, Jones went into an employee only area and stole the victim's iPhone 7 plus valued at $549.99.

She said that after he stole her phone, Jones left the store.

After leaving her job around 10:30 p.m., the victim stated she went to Jones' home to get her children. She said that at the time, she was afraid Jones might hit her, as he had done before, because she refused to stay with him.

The victim stated she remained inside of her car and honked the horn. She told officers her intent was for her children to come to her and to avoid Jones.

Police documents state Jones came out of the house alone and approached the victim. She said she rolled down her window a small amount so she could speak with Jones.

She told officers his attitude was initially kind as he asked her to come inside his home so they could discuss their relationship.

After she refused, his attitude became hostile.

Documents state Jones tried to forcefully enter the victim's car and pulled on multiple door handles.

He was able to open the rear passenger door and unlock the front driver door by reaching from behind the backseat. Once he opened the door, he repeatedly punched the victim in the face and head.

The victim said she tried to defend herself, but was overpowered by Jones. She believes she lost consciousness at one point from the hits to the head.

The victim repeatedly honked the car's horn and screamed for help during the assault. That's when Jones pinned her in the driver's seat, preventing her from escaping.

She informed officers Jones continued to strike her for "a few minutes," eventually stopping and walking inside of his home.

After Jones went back into his home, the victim's children walked out the home and got into the car.

The victim started driving away, but soon realized Jones was following her. When the victim drove into a different neighborhood, Jones stopped, and drove to an unknown location.

After he drove away, the victim called 911 and reported the battery.

When officers arrived on scene, she was transported by Leon County Emergency Medical Services to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital for additional treatment due to the severity of her injuries.

Officers state the victim's face was swollen, she had dried blood on her face, and had discoloration above her left eye that was swollen shut. She also suffered a nasal fracture from the assault.

Officers were able to obtain surveillance video from the victim's job that showed Jones stealing the victim's phone.

Based on the evidence, Jones is being charged with burglary with assault or battery, felony battery, grand theft, and false imprisonment.

His bond has been set at $25,000.
