TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A 59-year-old man has been arrested, accused of shooting his gun to scare off a neighbor's pit bull.

Kimberly Little, 59, was arrested on Wednesday and was released on his own recognizance.

Documents say that the incident happened on Dec. 29. According to the report, a deputy was called to the 5000 block of Meadowlark Lane about gunshots.

When the deputy arrived, witnesses told him that they had heard three to four gunshots and later saw a man walking south on Meadowlark Lane holding a handgun.

They said they heard the man yell, "Get on," as they observed a neighbor's dog running away from him.

When the deputy spoke to Little, he said that he had indeed fired his gun.

He explained that there had been issues with some pit bulls in the neighborhood running loose and "wreaking havoc" throughout the neighborhood. Little went on, saying that he had seen a small dog being attached by two pit bulls earlier.

When he saw a pit bull coming down the street that day, Little shot into the ditch by the road to scare off the dog. Documents note that Little stressed that he fired all the rounds in a safe direction.

However, when asked if the dog was attacking him, Little stated, "No, it didn't attack me." When asked if the dog was vicious, he replied no.

Because Little left his yard to fire the gun and was not in fear for his safety, the deputy determined that Little was firing a gun in public, which is a misdemeanor charge.

A warrant was issued for Little's arrest on Jan. 19 and he was taken into custody on Wednesday.

His arraignment is set for April 19, 2018.
