TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) –  Police say a Tallahassee man wanted on theft charges was arrested after he jumped in a river and got bitten by a k-9.

Jeremiah Gilley, 38, was arrested for multiple charges including fraud, grand theft, and burglary.

Monday, officers went to Sunrise Place apartments for a suspect wanted for driving a vehicle without a valid license.

According to court documents, when officers arrived at the apartment complex, they spotted the suspect’s boyfriend Gilley, who was also wanted for multiple felony warrants.

Officers had previously tried to arrest Gilley, but he was never at the apartment the past times few times officers came looking for him.

Officers then walked up to the building where they noticed Gilley’s girlfriend, who they initially came there to arrest. Once Gilley saw officers coming closer to the apartment, he began walking away from them.

Documents say, officers then began to focus all their attention to track down Gilley.

As officers came closer to Gilley, he began to pick up his pace and take off running. According to documents, officers commanded him to stop multiple times, but he kept going.

Gilley then jumped in a river nearby to try to escape officers. The officers eventually found him in the river and told him to come out.

After about 20 minutes, several officers surrounded the river giving Gilley no place to escape. He finally got out the river, but he still ignored officer’s commands to get on his stomach. Gilley then tried running again but, in the process, he was bit on the foot by a k-9.

Documents say officers were finally able to get Gilley to the ground to arrest him. Shortly after, officers transported Jeremiah Gilley to the Leon County Jail on multiple charges including fraud, grand theft, and burglary.
