TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A man has been arrested, accused of breaking an officer's ankle after he was caught assaulting a woman in front of children.
Jairo Hernandez, 28, was arrested on Tuesday after police were called to a home in the 3000 block of Old St. Augustine Road about a domestic disturbance.
When officers arrived, court documents say they saw Hernandez hitting the victim so they ran inside to separate the two. One officer managed to escort Hernandez to the front porch of the home while the other talked to the victim.
Not long after, the officer who was inside talking to the victim heard "thumping from outside."
Before the officer could go outside, Hernandez, who was handcuffed, charged through the front door. Documents say officers tried to grab Hernandez' arms, but he kept pulling away, kicking and throwing his body around until he and both officers were on the ground.
As officers fought to control Hernandez, he threw himself at an officer.
"[The officer] groaned and stated that he believed he may have broken his ankle," the other office wrote in the arrest report.
The struggle continued for quite some time, until the other officer was able to place his weight on Hernandez's body, keeping him from moving.
An investigation revealed that Hernandez got into an argument with the woman at the location.
Once back up arrived, court documents say Hernandez was transported to the Leon County Dentition Center. He has been charged with domestic battery, battery on a law enforcement officer, deprivation of 911, resisting arrest with violence, and resisting arrest without violence.
As of Thursday, he remains in custody on a $4,500 bond.
