TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Tallahassee man has been arrested, accused of sexually battering and molesting a child multiple times at his home.
Wayne Engram, 51, remained in the Leon County Detention Center on Wednesday on a $65,000 bond.
He was arrested Monday on charges of sexual assault by a custodian of a victim between the ages of 12 and 18 years of age and the sex offense of fondling a child.
Engram committed the offenses at his home, according to a probable cause document. The victim told an investigator that Engram touched her inappropriately four times, the first time when she was in the sixth grade.
She said the last time he touched her was in November 2017, when she was left alone with him while she was visiting relatives at his home.
Engram once gave the victim a phone "after he did it" and told her to tell everyone it was a late birthday gift, the document said. She interpreted the phone as a way of telling her to keep her "mouth shut" and not to tell anyone.
The victim said Engram would often come by her bus stop and give her things she did not want and that she either gave the things away or threw them away.
Eventually, the victim said she wrote a letter to her aunt explaining what Engram had done to her. Before the interview with the investigator, the victim said, she was in "so much pain" she wanted to kill herself.
Based on the interview, Engram was charged and a warrant was issued for his arrest on Monday. He was taken into custody on Tuesday.
