TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A 70-year-old man has been charged with DUI after police say he was involved in two different hit-and-runs on the same day.
George Smith, 70, was arrested on Wednesday and remains in the Leon County Detention Facility on a $2,250 bond.
According to a probable cause document, Smith got into two different crashes on Tuesday.
The first happened around 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of East Park Ave. and Blair Stone Road. Police say that both Smith and the vehicle he hit were stopped in traffic. At some point, however, Smith accelerated his silver Honda Ridgeline pick-up and hit the back of a car.
The car Smith hit pulled into the Publix on Blair Stone to exchange information with him, but Smith kept driving.
The second crash happened around 7:20 p.m. in the Governor Square Mall parking lot. Court documents say Smith hit a car that was turning out of the parking lot, T-boning the vehicle.
Though the car he hit followed him through the parking lot as he parked, witnesses say Smith made no attempt to talk about the crash.
Police arrived and confirmed that Smith owned the vehicle before taking him into custody. He was charged with DUI and two counts of hit-and-run.
