TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A man has been arrested, accused of picking up a 6-year-old by his neck and throwing him against a window.
Allen Snodgrass, 44, was arrested over the weekend.
According to a probable cause document, the Florida Department of Children and Families filed a report about an incident in August. They allege that on August 31, 2017, Snodgrass picked the 6-year-old boy up by his neck and threw him against the window.
When they examined the child, they found positive evidence of abuse noting that the injuries were consistent with the above incident.
The victim told investigators that this was not the first time he had received a beating that had left marks on his body.
However, when investigators talked to Snodgrass, they got a different story. He told them that he grabbed the victim by the back of his neck and "popped" the victim "on the back of the head" because the victim was standing on the windowsill.
Investigators write that Snodgrass' version of events was inconsistent with the injuries the victim received.
During the interview, the investigators noted that Snodgrass did not express any concern for the victim and consistently referred to him as a burden for the family.
"While it is reasonable for a parent to physically punish a child," investigators wrote, "it is unreasonable for a parent to grab a 6-year-old by the neck, a sensitive area that provides oxygen to the body, and then exerting enough force to leave visible injuries."
Further investigation revealed Snodgrass had previously been investigated by DCF for an incident of suspected child abuse.
As a result of the investigation, a warrant for Snodgrass' arrest was issued. He was arrested on Friday and charged with child cruelty/child abuse without great bodily harm.
He remains in the Leon County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
