TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Tallahassee man who told police he is a bartender at The Moon was arrested for possession of drugs and narcotic equipment while at the San Luis Mission Park.
Alfred J. Mears, 25, was booked into the Leon County Detention Center after a Tallahassee Police Department officer came upon him at San Luis Mission Park located at 1313 San Luis Road after midnight Monday.
Mears told the officer he had just gotten off work as a bartender at The Moon and was at the park "to hang out" with a female friend, the officer wrote in a probable cause affidavit.
The officer wrote that he found it suspicious that a car was parked in the rear corner of the parking lot with only its parking lights on and behind the bathroom building.
While speaking to Mears, the officer wrote, he smelled marijuana coming from him, and he asked Mears whether any drugs or weapons were on him or in the vehicle.
Mears said that he and his friend had just "smoked a joint" in the car and that in the car was a grinder, which the officer said was in "plain view from my position outside the vehicle."
Searching the car, the officer found what he described as "a large amount of green leafy substance" he believed to be cannabis.
Mears waived his Miranda Rights and claimed ownership of all items in the vehicle, the officer said, and "Mears admitted the substance was cannabis."
The female with Mears denied any ownership of any of the items, and she was released and left the scene.
Officers found in the car multiple items that the office wrote were evidence of criminal wrongdoing. The items included "32 individually packaged smaller bags of the green leafy substance" that weighed about 20 grams and a black scale of the kind, the officer wrote, commonly used to weigh cannabis.
Speaking to the officer, according to the court document, Mears said he bought the cannabis for himself but said "if a friend asks me for some weed, I'll sell it to them."
Mears said he does not usually sell marijuana but sometimes, for friends, sells individual baggies for $5 each.
He was released from jail on a $3,000 bond.
San Luis Mission Park is a City of Tallahassee park.
