TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The City of Tallahassee is recognized for being the first Purple Heart Capital City in the nation.
The purple heart is the oldest military decoration and is awarded to members of military that have been wounded or killed in combat with a declared enemy of the United States.
Tallahassee's veteran population is now over 18,000 and the city is home to 400 Purple Heart recipients.
