TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Throughout the day, Tallahassee has celebrated the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., as people across the country remember the civil rights leader.

Part of the city's celebration brought hundreds to Cascades Park.

This was the seventh annual Dare to Dream Festival.

It brings big crowds every year with lots of entertainment, but it also gives the community a chance to reflect on Dr. King's legacy in different ways.

It was a chilly but sunny afternoon in the Capital City. Families were out here enjoying music and dance performances at the amphitheater.

People also got the chance to write their dreams on a large board made in the shape of the word "dream."

We asked folks what Dr. King means to them and what needs to be done to ensure his dream fully comes true.

"I think everyone just needs to put their pride aside and focus on what's really important, instead of social media and all the things that's going on outside of what's really important," said Malik Woodson, Tallahassee Resident. "If we all just focus on what needs to be done in the country and itself, we can all get back to where we really need to be."

Also Monday afternoon, the city held its annual Day of Dialogue at Cascades Park.

A panel of community leaders led a discussion about this year's theme, Building Bridges One Neighbor at a Time.

Those who came to the event brainstormed a list of ways to bind the community.

We talk about Monday being a day of service, and this afternoon, organizers collected clothing and other items to send to Panama City as that community recovers from Hurricane Michael.

They told me they filled two big boxes full of donations that were picked up and are now headed to the Panhandle.
