TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- A Tallahassee organization that provides resources to future and current homeowners is seeking additional funding from the city.
The Tallahassee Lenders' Consortium (TLC) is seeking financial help to support its down payment assistance program.
Executive director Libby Lane says demand to get help with this particular program has gone up, thanks to an improving housing market.
While TLC is seeking $71,000 for the down payment assistance program, Lane says the consortium offers several other programs to encourage residents to find and keep their homes.
"We do a lot of credit counseling, buyer readiness training, homebuyer education, because we want to create long-term successful homebuyers," she said. "We will help people that own their homes keep their homes, and we have recently expanded into revitalization, where we purchase homes, we revitalize them, and we sell them to low-income families."
Lane says if the commission denies TLC's request for funding, it will most likely need to create a waiting list for residents seeking help with their down payments.
