TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Tallahassee firefighters are being credited with saving one of their own after a colleague suffered a heart attack during an obstacle course.
Tallahassee Fire officials say firefighter Steve Box participated in a physical fitness evolution last week, wearing his heavy uniform coat, helmet and air pack. He suffered a heart attack and collapsed while climbing a five-story training tower and was found unconscious. More than seven firefighters and paramedics rushed to his aid and began CPR. They also shocked him several times with a defibrillator.
Several hours after surgery, some of the firefighters credited with saving Box's life visited him in his hospital room.
Box, an eight-year veteran of the fire department, is currently resting at home and is expected to make a full recovery.
