Tallahassee Fire Department Opening $2.9 Million Facility

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Tallahassee Fire Department is opening a new station. It will service residents living in eastern tallahassee and leon county.

Residents living within a five mile response radius of the new station may qualify for lower homeowner insurance rates.

Fire Station 16 is expected to save firefighters up to five minutes when responding to emergency situations in areas like Buck Lake and Capital Circle NE.

The 11,500 square foot, three story station is located on Easterwood Drive.

It cost $2.9 million to build.

The Fire Department is inviting the public to help celebrate the new station at a grand opening event.

The event, which will take place at 913 Easterwood Drive and will feature a ceremonial hose uncoupling, fire truck "push-in", pipe and drum band and tours of the facility.

Parking for the event will be available next door at the American Red Cross building at 1115 Easterwood Drive. The public is invited to attend.
