TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)--The chair of the Tallahassee ethics board announces her decision to resign.
Lila Jaber says she'll step down in December.
She says it was important to make the announcement Thursday for procedural reasons and to give the board enough notice to start the process of replacing her.
"It's also appropriate because it's breast cancer month and only a small handful of people know that after my appointment my sister was diagnosed with breast cancer and I haven't been with her and 2016 needs to be more about my family," said Jaber.
She was first appointed to the position in January, after residents voted to create the board in last November's election.
Jaber was selected for the position by Mayor Andrew Gillum.
