TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The former Tallahassee Police officer and firefighter found guilty for their role in a charity scheme have been sentenced.
Joseph 'Mike' Amison, a former Tallahassee firefighter and his wife, Jennifer, a former Tallahassee police officer, were found guilty on charges of racketeering and grand theft back on March 5.
Jennifer was sentenced to five years in state prison followed by five years of probation while Joseph Amison was sentenced to a little over three and a half years in state prison followed by probation for five years.
They will also be ordered to pay over $26,000 in restitution as well as court costs and fines.
The two are accused of keeping nearly $12,000 of donated money they were supposed to give to families after the deaths of two Tallahassee firefighters and a firefighter's daughter.
The Amison's claimed to be having health problems as an excuse for not turning over the money.
