TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Tallahassee community continues to mourn following a major loss this weekend after one of its most influential athletic figures passed away from a brain tumor.
Florida State Hall of Fame member Monk Bonasorte ended his battle with brain cancer this weekend.
The Former Florida State All-American football player made his fight with cancer public in October of last year.
He was senior associate director of athletics for eight years.
FSU Head Coach Jimbo Fisher made a statement remembering his legacy:
"I mean Monk, to me besides what he did for the university as far as a caring, he gave his life to Florida State. He really did, everything about the university, what was best for the university, what was best for our kids and developing the kids and being there for them, in times of tough need," said Fisher, "I mean when they needed tough love, when they needed caring, I mean he was the epitome of what you want someone when you send your son or daughter to a university that's there to help care for him and make the right decisions and do the right things, he stands for all the right things, he was a real person."
Monk is survived by his wife Beverly and their two sons T.J. and Rocky.
