MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL)--A citizens advisory committee one step closer to fulfilling recommendations that were put together to end sexual assault in the community.
The Tallahassee-Leon County Commission on the Status on Women and Girls compiled a report detailing the scope of the problem in the community and the resources agencies offer.
The commission says nearly one in five women in the U.S. will become a victim of rape in her lifetime.
The report recommends putting in place a community-wide bystander intervention training program. The chairwoman of the commission, Jessica Lowe-Minor, sat down with WTXL ABC 27's Jade Bulecza to explain how the hospitality industry will play a key role.
Lowe-Minor says they have team up with the Leon County Health Department and applied for a $300,000 grant from the state fund the program.
