TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Tallahassee City Commissioners passed revisions to the current public record policy.
The policy change adds text messages and other electronic communication and emails to the list of items that can be kept and requested as public record.
This comes after a lawsuit that was filed in late 2017 against the now former city manager Rick Fernandez.
Fernandez used his city issued phone to send and receive text messages with a lobbyist regarding FSU football tickets.
When these text messages were requested, the city was not able to provide them as they had been deleted from the phone and not retained.
The new changes will effect every city employee.
