TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - The Tallahassee City Commission is looking at several aspects of the upgrade plan for the Tallahassee International Airport.
One of those items is whether or not to use a five hundred thousand dollar grant from the Federal Aviation Administration for improving security checkpoints and life safety system upgrades.
Ninety percent of that money would be funded through an FAA improvement program grant, according to the City Commission Agenda. That money will go towards the terminal's rehabilitation.
The other ten percent of the money is split evenly between the passenger facility charge program, which is collected from each passenger who flies to the airport, and the Florida Department of Transportation.
If the Commission does not decide to use the money for the rehabilitation, they say it could be used for other projects.
According to the Commission agenda however, the City's Office of Budget and Policy has already reviewed the project and says that it does meet budgetary guidelines.
Another item up for approval by Commissioners is to select the construction company who will move forward in the process and in-turn, set the final budget.
Three companies, Cathey Construction from Mexico Beach, Shaffield Building Specialties from Tallahassee, and Cook Brothers, Inc. from Midway, submitted proposals for the project.
The Commission Agenda states that, "Cook Brothers Inc. was evaluated as the lowest, responsive and responsible bidder in accordance with City Procurement Policy," and they are being recommended for the project which would set the budget at $10,542,036.70.
