TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - Bars can now stay open until 4 a.m., and new sound ordinances are going in place in the Capital City.
Commissioners approved a measure Wednesday night that places ordinances in a newly established Downtown Urban Core District. The area includes West Gaines Street, the All-Saints District, and areas near the Capitol.
These sections will have different sound regulations than residential areas. In the district, there will be no sound regulation from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. Between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m., the maximum sound level will be 55 decibels. Police will enforce the new regulations with sound meters.
Also at tonight's meeting, officials approve a new closing time for all businesses serving alcohol.
According to the ordinance, those bars and restaurant must now close at 4 a.m., regardless of the type of beverage license they hold. The commission went against a previous city staff recommendation to make the closing time at 2:30 a.m.
