TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) -- Tallahassee City Commissioner Scott Maddox is planning to address enhancing the consequences of animal cruelty to the city commission.
Maddox said that animal abuse can grow into family abuse in the household. "We need to crack down on pet abuse now, make it tougher, make the penalties tougher," he said.
The commissioner suggests that any public worker that goes door to door should be on the look out for signs of animal abuse.
"What i want to do is put teeth in the ordinance", said Maddox, "We want to take animals away from people that are abusing them and we want to make sure that we hit them in the pocket book so they know not to do it again."
Commissioner Maddox is hopeful that in the next two months, there will be significant progress to stop animal abuse.
The most recent meeting with the Commission on Wednesday (03/23) ended with new plans to fight animal cruelty. The plans will start with a policy recommendation for strengthening the ordinances and training city employees out in the field on how to detect and report animal abuse.
