TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- Classrooms full of desks and students learning at the Tallahassee Classical School are finally around the corner.

The State Board of Education approved the charter school's application to open in Leon County on Friday.

In Aug. 2019, public students, K-8, will have the option to go to Tallahassee Classical School.

The Co-founder of Tallahassee Classical School, Adrienne Campbell, says more than 3,000 students are currently on the wait lists at charter schools in Leon County.

They're hoping to fill that gap with a new charter school option for the community.

"The next step is to enter in contract negotiations with Leon County and we're really looking forward to working alongside Superintendent Hanna, the Leon County School Board, and the Leon County district as we move forward in the process," said Campbell. "We're also looking for a facility so that has gained some momentum."

According to Campbell, the school will be accepting nearly 500 students in Fall 2019.

She said almost 350 families have signed up as interested in applying.

Tallahassee Classical School will open applications in December.

Also, plans are on the horizon for parent information sessions around the community as well as a brand new website.
