TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Tallahassee city officials went over the budget for the current fiscal year, while working towards creating one for Fiscal Year 2019 Wednesday afternoon.
The third quarter results are in for Fiscal Year 2018 and all of the city's 14 operating funds are projected to be balanced by the end of the year.
The commission approved recommendations at Wednesday's workshop to make sure this fiscal year's budget stays in check.
Officials also looked at the current five-year capital improvement plan. The city is working on a public safety campus, second senior center, and two new parks.
Looking ahead to Fiscal Year 2019, the recommended budget includes just over a million dollars to help 25 nonprofits. That list did not include the Big Bend Crime Stoppers.
"We're a small organization with a very small budget, and we truly believe that with additional funding, we indeed can increase the tips and the tips yield the results of getting criminals off the street," said Sharon Ofuani, Executive Director of Big Bend Crime Stoppers.
City staff said they could bring back a recommendation to fund Crime Stoppers at a public hearing about the budget in September.
That meeting is set for September 12 and the next fiscal year starts October 1.
